I've been a pretty stalwart defender of Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie since he took over as the man in charge of making the football decisions at Raiders headquarters.  Over the course of his tenure, however, it's started to feel like those of us who believe in what McKenzie is doing in Oakland are the last, sad survivors of a once robust civilization that has been forgotten, living in an outpost that was abandoned by all hope and promise long, long ago.  Too much? Maybe. But being a McKenzie defender is a lonely business these days.  What exactly has McKenzie done to ...
It's easy to fall in love with a player whose name is "Champ," especially a Champ whose 16-year career has more than enough accomplishments to land him in Canton. But when that Champ is in his mid-30s, fresh off an injury-plagued season that made him tons of money, it seems as if he's a Champ who just isn't worth taking a chance on. The Denver Broncos said goodbye to cornerback Champ Bailey Wednesday, ending a 10-year marriage between the Mile High City and the future Hall of Famer. The move was purely financial, of course. The Broncos were expected to pay him $10 ...
The Oakland Raiders need a complete overhaul on offense this offseason. Can they add key pieces in free agency? How should they use their early round draft picks? The Oakland Raiders are less than a week away from two of their best players becoming unrestricted free agents. Defensive end Lamarr Houston and left tackle Jared Veldheer will both be able to start talking with other teams in just a few days, which could lead to their departures from the team. Although the Raiders still have an exclusive window to negotiate with Veldheer and Houston until March 8, the odds that one or both of them could be on their way out of town increased when the team decided not to use the franchise or transition tag on either of ...
Having more available salary cap space than any NFL team, the Oakland Raiders are certain to be active in the free-agency period of the 2014 offseason.  Although some big names have come off the market within the past week by way of re-signings or franchise tags, this year’s free-agent group still sets up nicely for what the Raiders need to do.  With the draft ideally being approached through a “best player available” mentality, free agency is where the Raiders can address their needs, and there is plenty of talent on the offensive line, defensive end, defensive tackle and cornerback to name a ...
Once upon a time (back in 2010), Darren McFadden rushed for 1,157 yards and added another 507 receiving in just 13 games. Unfortunately, McFadden has neither been able to match that production nor stay healthy for 13 games in a single season since then while playing for the Oakland Raiders. McFadden will be hoping to resurrect his career in 2014, but he’s unlikely to turn things around sufficiently to ever be considered the type of player he was a few years ago. After six seasons of being widely considered the most talented player on offense for the Raiders, there remains only a small chance ...
The Oakland Raiders have the fifth pick in the 2014 NFL draft. Will Jadeveon Clowney fall to the Raiders? Will they target one of the top quarterbacks? Which QB do they prefer? Watch as Adam Lefkoe and CSN Bay Area's Scott Bair discuss the team's options at No. 5 in the video above. Read more Oakland Raiders news on BleacherReport.com
The Oakland A's may only be five games into MLB's 2014 spring training, but they've already provided plenty of excitement. The team as a whole has three wins, one loss and a tie. Two of those three wins came at the hands of Bay Area rival San Francisco Giants. When it's all said and done, they'll play 29 more games including several split-squad games. Only five players have played in all five games—none of which are starters. They include Michael Taylor, Billy Burns, Chris Gimenez, Shane Peterson and Addison Russell. Burns is hitting .308 so far while the rest are hitting at ...
