The NFL draft weekend has wrapped up and the Oakland Raiders along with the Raider Nation should be very excited about the 2014 Raiders' draft class. Raiders fans have had to deal with too many bad experiences on draft weekend. Rarely are they ever excited about their draft class and then they have to hear how bad their drafting and team is in the media. That's not the case in 2014.  This draft class for the Raiders has a solid mixture of players that can make an immediate impact right away and players that will be a part of their foundation ...
In the most important draft to date for the rebuilding of the Oakland Raiders’ franchise, the reviews are quite positive.  General manager Reggie McKenzie was able to find value throughout the draft’s seven rounds, often selecting players who could have easily come off the board well before they did.  The potential impact Khalil Mack and Derek Carr could have is clear, but several others, including Gabe Jackson and Justin Ellis, will have opportunities to earn key roles early on as well.  Although we can’t say for sure how a particular group of rookies ranks until a number of years down the line, here ...
Jonathan Dowling was the Oakland Raiders' last pick in the 2014 NFL draft. He is the third defensive back chosen by Reggie McKenzie and the Raiders this weekend. He's also the second 6'3" defensive back drafted. Dowling was actually a 4-star recruit, via Rivals.com, coming out of high school, and he went to the Florida Gators. However, he was dismissed from the team. Dowling is the second player the Raiders took in the seventh round who ran into some issues in college. Dowling may have gone undrafted because of these issues, but instead, he was drafted in the last round. He'll have ...
The Oakland Raiders entered the 2014 NFL draft in desperate need of young talent. The entire roster has been filled with veterans who are long-term solutions. A quarterback of the future and a player who could make a big impact were both needed—in fact, there weren't many positions where the Raiders didn't have a need. A great draft this year could truly be franchise-altering. Do well, and the Raiders may finally be on the right path. Do poorly, and the Raiders may be facing big changes in 2015. Begin Slideshow
Shelby Harris will be an interesting player to watch in 2014. After missing the 2013 season because he was dismissed from the team, he'll have an opportunity to redeem himself with the Oakland Raiders. Had he played in 2013, he may have been drafted a lot higher.  Reggie McKenzie is willing to take a risk in the late rounds on a player who had character issues in college. I think it's a smart move for McKenzie. These players almost went undrafted because of their mistakes. They'll get a second chance with the Raiders.   What Harris Brings to the Table Harris played defensive tackle ...
The Oakland Raiders have completed their draft and now set their eyes on undrafted free agents. Reggie McKenzie's best acquisition in his first two years has been Rod Streater. He signed the undrafted free agent after the NFL draft in 2012. Heading into the 2014 season, Streater is expected to be the No. 1 receiver for the Raiders and may become a household name.  Streater isn't the only undrafted free agent to make an immediate impact whom McKenzie has found. Last year, McKenzie signed Matt McGloin after he went undrafted. McGloin ended up starting six games for the Raiders in 2014 ...
Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie has said that he wants his team to get bigger and stronger. He added a big and strong cornerback with the 219th pick in the draft. Travis Carrie is 6'0" and weighs 206 pounds. He is also an athlete, as he was an All-MAC first-team punt returner.  Carrie recorded four interceptions in 2013 and earned third-team All-MAC honors. The Raiders will have multiple ways they could use Carrie, which makes him more valuable to McKenzie. He ran a 4.45 40 on his pro day, so I would not be surprised if he gets an opportunity ...
The Oakland Raiders took a cornerback with the 116th pick in the 2014 NFL draft. He's the second cornerback taken by the Raiders in the last two years. Last year, with the 12th overall pick, they took D.J. Hayden. Both players are very different in how they play and their body types. Hayden is 5'11" and weighs just under 200 pounds. McGill is 6'3" and 211 pounds.  McGill will be a project for the Raiders both on and off the field. Taking him in the fourth round is good value for the Raiders because some think he could have gone in the ...
The Oakland Raiders have added some beef, or "Jelly," by adding Justin Ellis with their first fourth-round pick. Oakland needed to get bigger and deeper along the defensive line, and they've done that by adding Ellis. Ellis is 6'1" and weighs over 330 pounds, and he's a stone wall at times along the defensive line. What Ellis Brings to the Table   Strength and Size Ellis is a big boy, and despite his shorter arms he is going to be hard to block. He does a good job of occupying blockers and has good lower body movement. His footwork is nice and he keeps ...
