The Oakland A's sent seven prospects to participate in the Arizona Fall League—which just wrapped up—and one of them nearly missed finishing with the AFL batting title. Of the bunch, shortstop Daniel Robertson and first baseman Matt Olson are top-five prospects. Outfielder Boog Powell is in the top 20. Pitchers Austin House, Ryan Doolittle, Tanner Peters and Drew Granier joined them in Arizona. If you didn't watch it yourself, Athletics Farm and Oakland Clubhouse did a fantastic job providing coverage. And if you didn't follow along with their coverage, here's a cumulative recap of how the seven prospects finished, with grades.Begin Slideshow
You’ll latch onto the dimmest of bright spots when your team is 0-10. Even the faintest glimmers of hope burn hot like the sun when you’re staring into a black abyss. That’s just the way the cold universe of NFL football works once a team is out of the playoff picture. While the season flickers on for another six games, the Oakland Raiders need to probe what little talent their 2014 season hasn’t already sucked into a black hole. Maybe they can find a star if they look hard enough and long enough in the right places. One of them might be ...
The Oakland Raiders' Week 12 Thursday Night Football matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs is a prime opportunity for the Silver and Black to earn its first victory.  Why? Despite an abysmal season, this Raiders team has the roster depth to take advantage of a weary familiar divisional opponent—who just played a physical game against the defending Super Bowl champions, the Seattle Seahawks three days prior.  This circumstance favors Oakland in terms of bodies ready to play at optimum level on short rest. The Chiefs offense hinges on the playmaking ability of running back Jamaal Charles. Knile Davis has recently entered the fold, ...
The Oakland Raiders walked off the field on Sunday with a sentiment on their minds that's happened too often this season: so close, yet so far. The defense had performed well enough to win against the San Diego Chargers, but the offense couldn't do the same. The result was a 13-6 loss. The defense is far from elite, but it has vastly improved as the season has progressed. It once again showed how much better it is now by locking down the Chargers offense for most of the game. While the defense did allow a touchdown, it did so following a Derek ...
Still looking for their first victory of the season, the Oakland Raiders took on the San Diego Chargers in an AFC West clash on Sunday. The Chargers had lost their last three games, and a struggling Oakland squad seemed to be the remedy for a team looking to get its season back on track. The Oakland Raiders came into San Diego with an 0-9 record but played a tough game against the rival Chargers for nearly the full 60 minutes. The offense did enough to put a pair of field goals on the board. The defense stifled Philip Rivers and the San Diego offense, limiting the Chargers to just 13 points and only a touchdown lead late in the fourth quarter. With one final chance to win the game, rookie quarterback Derek Carr drove the Raiders from their own 12-yard line to the 41 in the final minute of the contest. A touchdown on the drive ...
The Oakland Raiders are still looking for their first win of the season heading into their Week 11 clash with the San Diego Chargers (5-4). Just a few weeks ago, this game would've been seen as a major mismatch. But now it looks like this one could be much closer than some might expect. The key in this game for Oakland is going to be the offense. Its one good performance this season came in Week 6 against this very same San Diego team. Derek Carr had the best game of his young career, and the Raiders scored a season-high 28 ...
The Oakland Raiders head into their 10th game of the season still looking for their first win. They have a great chance to pick it up this week against the San Diego Chargers, a team that is in the midst of an unexpected free fall. Kickoff is this Sunday at 4:05 p.m ET from Qualcomm Stadium.  When the Raiders hosted the Chargers back in Week 6, it was a matchup of two teams going in opposite directions. Oakland could see the writing on the wall, as the signs were already evident that this would be another lost season. San Diego, on the ...
As the Oakland Raiders inch closer to a winless season, the competition doesn’t ease up with consecutive division opponents coming up. Division games are usually more competitive, which bodes well for Oakland if the players execute on their assignments. The San Diego Chargers narrowly escaped with a win on the road back in Week 6, now the action shifts to Qualcomm Stadium where the Raiders haven’t won since the 2011 season. The Chargers enter this week’s matchup on a three-game losing streak. After being shut out in their last contest and a bye week to recuperate, San Diego is just as eager ...
One of general manager Reggie McKenzie’s biggest tasks when he took over the Oakland Raiders three years ago was to change the losing culture of the football team. A task that has no doubt proven more difficult than he imagined because it’s more deeply rooted than a few veteran free agents can solve. The Raiders are losers now—a description that extends beyond the football field. Just lose, baby. Commitment to excrement. No pride and no poise. That’s not just garden-variety hate anymore; it’s reality. After years of thinking owner Al Davis was the problem, the Raider Nation can now only wonder why ...
