As strange as it sounds, it’s possible to extract bright spots from the Oakland Raiders’ Week 1 loss when discussing player stock reports.
Head coach Jack Del Rio made a brief mention of positives in Monday’s press conference, but after any loss there’s a heavy emphasis on the negative.
This week’s stock report will dig deep to find those positives for certain players and highlight what went wrong on the back end of the defense in Week 1.
As a prelude to Week 2, we’ll go through player stocks on the downturn and on the rise based on last week’s performances and personnel ...
The Oakland Raiders announced on Tuesday that they re-signed safety Taylor Mays along with defensive lineman C.J. Wilson.
Bringing back Mays, who participated during the preseason with Oakland, comes on the heels of losing starting safeties Nate Allen to an MCL injury, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, and Charles Woodson to a dislocated shoulder, per Dan Gartland of SI.com.
Head coach Jack Del Rio didn't seem too happy with the remaining secondary he had during the Raiders' Week 1 33-13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, according to the Mercury News' Tim Kawakami:
Just a few weeks ago, Mays was a member of the Detroit ...
It’s time for the Oakland Raiders to go back into the lab and begin making adjustments for their Week 2 opponent, the Baltimore Ravens.
Based on a horrific Week 1 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals and potential long-term injuries, the coaching staff needs to make sweeping changes. Improvement requires some personnel shifts on the defensive side of the ball and a change in philosophy on offense.
That’s not an overreaction.
Head coach Jack Del Rio called the Raiders performance "embarrassing."
It’s only one game, but the talent on the field in Week 1 showed a variety of deficiencies. In addition, key players could miss ...
Another season opener ending in another blowout loss for the Oakland Raiders is only slightly surprising.
The Cincinnati Bengals dominated the Raiders from the very beginning of Sunday's 33-13 romping in the Black Hole. To an extent, this outcome isn't shocking—the Bengals have an established coaching staff and have had a consistently talented roster.
The Raiders, meanwhile, have neither of those things. Jack Del Rio is the third head coach in Oakland's last two seasons and has inherited a roster with an intriguing young nucleus of players, but not much else.
Those facts still don't excuse one of the Raiders' most disappointing performances ...
Oakland Raiders safety Charles Woodson dislocated his shoulder late in the team's Week 1 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals after running into linebacker Malcolm Smith, but was active against the Baltimore Ravens just one week later.
Woodson displayed a tremendous amount of toughness this week. Ian Rapoport of NFL.com weighed in on a photo of Woodson stretching at practice Wednesday posted by Jimmy Durkin of the San Jose Mercury News:
Rapoport of NFL.com added the veteran campaigned against efforts to keep him out of action for a week or two.
Woodson, 38, has been a vital part of Oakland's secondary, registering 208 tackles, three ...
The Oakland Raiders don’t have time to overthink an embarrassing Week 1 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. As quarterback Matt McGloin phrased it in a postgame press conference, “It’s one game.” Now, the team must correct the mistakes and focus on the Baltimore Ravens.
It’s harder to forget a blowout loss on your own turf, but Oakland can redeem itself in front of its fans in Week 2 with better execution.
Head coach Jack Del Rio emphasized the need to get back to the basics on defense and applying film-room study to execute the game plan on the field.
Most of the Week 1 ...
A portion of Oakland Raiders fans wanted to see quarterback Matt McGloin take regular-season snaps with the first-team offense. Be careful what you wish for because your wish may come true.
Starting quarterback Derek Carr left the game and never returned with an injury to his throwing hand Sunday. McGloin took center stage with the team down 10-0 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
An opportunity to show his skills as a starting regular-season quarterback presented itself with Carr immediately going into the locker room, per CSNCalifornia.com writer Scott Bair:
McGloin's preseason performances provided hope that he'd be fit to lead the offense in Carr's ...
The Cincinnati Bengals successfully crushed the spirits of the Oakland Raiders and their fans at the Oakland Coliseum on Sunday.
The Bengals offensive line and running back Jeremy Hill set the tone in the first half with long extended drives capped with touchdowns to take an early 24-0 lead before halftime.
Cincinnati set the tempo, and the Raiders failed to establish their own game plan. Quarterback Derek Carr’s injury almost midway through the second quarter made matters worse.
The Raiders offense didn’t find rhythm until late in the fourth quarter, when the game spiraled way out of hand.
Oakland’s sputtering offense kept the defense ...
The Oakland Raiders were thin in their secondary coming into Sunday’s season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals, and the problem was magnified by a knee injury to safety Nate Allen. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, an MRI on Monday showed Allen tore his MCL. He was placed on injured reserve on Sept. 15.

Allen Avoids Torn ACL; Placed on IR
Tuesday, Sept. 15
Allen was placed on IR with the designation to return, the team announced.
On Sept. 14, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the Raiders feared Allen had torn his ACL.
Allen's absence is concerning for a squad that finished a middling 16th in the league against ...
Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr suffered a bruised thumb, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, in the second quarter of the team's game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday after running with the ball and taking a big hit.
Fallon Smith of CSN Bay Area reported Carr was a full participant in practice Wednesday. He's expected to play in Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens, and Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported he won't have restrictions or wear a protective device.
