Oakland Raiders wide receiver Michael Crabtree was ruled out for the remainder of Saturday's Wild Card Game against the Houston Texans in the fourth quarter as trainers continued to evaluate him for a concussion, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.  Crabtree has dealt with an ankle injury at various times this season, but it hadn't forced him off the field. In fact, the receiver hasn't missed a game since 2013 while a member of the San Francisco 49ers. While the 2009 first-round pick had a few solid seasons with the 49ers, he has been even better since joining the Raiders in 2015. Playing ...
Oakland Raiders offensive tackle Donald Penn suffered a knee injury that will hold him out of his team's AFC Wild Card Game against the Houston Texans on Saturday, according to Jimmy Durkin of the Bay Area News Group. Penn said he has a small fracture in his knee that won't require surgery and that he could play in the Raiders' next game if Oakland advances, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. The timing of this injury could not have come at a worse time considering that Penn has been a beacon of consistency over his 11-year career, playing in every single game since ...
It was the NFL horror story that ruined Christmas Eve.  Those who love the quarterback quit eating, quit celebrating, quit opening presents the moment his world came crashing down. With one "Blue 80, set, hut!" and one sack that twisted him 360 degrees, Derek Carr laid on the turf, his eyes widened in terror and repeated, "It's broke. … It's broke. … It's broke. …" And nobody—not Raiders, not their fans and certainly not those close to Carr—could grasp that reality. A "Derek's hurt" bombshell immediately lit up a group text message chain between his former Fresno State teammates. Neither former receiver Josh Harper ...
The Oakland Raiders announced Wednesday that Connor Cook would remain the starting quarterback for the team's Wild Card matchup against the Houston Texans, per Scott Bair of CSN California.  The decision presumably means that Matt McGloin isn't healthy enough to play. McGloin, 27, suffered a left shoulder injury in Oakland's regular-season finale against the Denver Broncos that forced him out of the game late in the second quarter. He was just 6-of-11 for 21 yards as Oakland went into the half trailing 17-0. Cook played the second half, finishing 14-of-21 for 150 yards, one touchdown, one interception and a lost fumble. The Raiders lost to the Broncos, 24-6, ...
Outfielder Rajai Davis signed with the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday. Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports first reported Davis' one-year deal worth $6 million from the A's. Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle confirmed the deal, adding Davis can receive another $450,000 in performance bonuses. Davis, 36, had a solid season in 2016 for the Cleveland Indians, hitting .249 with 12 home runs, 48 RBI, 74 runs scored and an AL-high 43 stolen bases. While he is probably best served platooning in the outfield—he often sat against left-handed pitching with the Indians—he can still offer solid production. He has a .780 career OPS ...
By default, the Oakland Raiders expect to start rookie quarterback Connor Cook in Saturday's AFC Wild Card Game at the Houston Texans. Franchise quarterback Derek Carr is out with a broken fibula, and NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday morning backup Matt McGloin is "not believed to be ready" after he injured his left shoulder in Week 17. But McGloin's lack of availability could work as a blessing in disguise for the Raiders, who are better off with the talented and mysterious Cook under center as they embark on a nothing-to-lose playoff run. It's scary not knowing what to expect. With McGloin, you ...
The Oakland Raiders wrapped up a 12-4 season that exceeded most expectations, but they'll limp into the postseason after a 24-6 loss to the Denver Broncos. Above all, another injury adds an extra layer to the quarterback issues in Oakland. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, signal-caller Matt McGloin left with a trapezius injury after starting in place of the injured Derek Carr. McGloin often misfired through 25 minutes of action, and he never established a rhythm. McGloin’s backup, Connor Cook, looked more fearless against the Broncos secondary. The rookie quarterback engineered the Raiders’ first and only scoring drive late in the third quarter. Ultimately, ...
At first glance, fans of the Oakland Raiders seemingly have plenty to be happy about. Despite falling 24-6 on the road to the Denver Broncos in Week 17, the Raiders are a 12-win team headed to the playoffs for the first time sine 2002. But look a little closer and the smiles quickly fade. After spending most of the season looking like Super Bowl contenders, the Raiders now appear destined for a quick exit from the postseason. Because Oakland is literally limping into the playoffs at the most important position in the game. Over the first half of the 2016 campaign, Raiders quarterback ...
Oakland Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin suffered a shoulder injury in Week 17 against the Denver Broncos. Specifically, McGloin injured his trapezius, and it's "acting like a pinched nerve," per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.  He has been cleared to return, though he has not been given the nod to start. Continue for updates. McGloin Active vs. Texans  Saturday, Jan. 7 The Raiders announced McGloin is not among the team's inactives against the Houston Texans on Saturday. Rapoport reported McGloin will be the Raiders' backup against the Texans, and Connor Cook will be given the start. Latest on McGloin's Practice Status Friday, Jan. 6 The Raiders announced McGloin was limited in practice all week. McGloin Undergoes Additional Testing Monday, Jan. 2  McGloin ...
