The Oakland A's are in desperate need for some offensive help and they might be a bit closer to getting their main power threat back in Yoenis Cespedes. Not only might they activate Cespedes but they are also considering bringing Manny Ramirez up over the weekend. It would be a couple days after he is eligible, but it still might be a positive for the A's.John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reported the news:
Quite possible Cespedes and Manny could be activated for series in KC next weekend. #Athletics— John Shea (@JohnSheaHey) May 27, 2012

The Oakland A's have been struggling since losing Yoenis Cespedes to the disabled list and were hoping that Manny Ramirez would be able to provide some offensive pop to their lineup. That plan appears to be on hold for now.Ramirez, who is eligible to return to the A's on Wednesday, does not appear to be ready to join the big league ballclub yet. The A's manager feels the same way, according to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle:
Melvin seems to think Manny won't join A's Wednesday unless he drives a couple of balls in next couple of days.— John Shea (@JohnSheaHey) ...
Following a disappointing series against the Los Angeles Angels in which the Oakland Athletics only managed to score a total of three runs and were held to just 10 hits in the three-game series, the A's need to address their struggling offense. Is a call-up for Chris Carter in order? The A's are currently hanging on to second place in the American League West, a position they were not expected to be in at the beginning of the season. The fact that they are managing to compete, while scoring the fewest runs and having the worst ...
The lack of offense in Wednesday afternoon’s tilt between the Oakland Athletics and the Los Angeles Angels made the game one part boring and one part pathetic, turning some A’s fans into apathetic spectators. One day removed from being one-hit by C.J. Wilson and the Angels, the Athletics mustered up a whopping three base hits on Wednesday’s matinee, scoring one run along the way. During the three-game series, the A’s scored three total runs and collected 10 hits. How excitizzzzzzz… The Athletics’ offensive woes are not a brand-new storyline. Oakland currently ranks last in the American League in runs scored, ...
The Oakland Athletics enter Memorial Day weekend with a record of 22-23, five games behind the Texas Rangers for first place in the American League West and just two games back in the premature wild card race. Dan Szymborski wrote an article on ESPN Insider yesterday updating the ZiPS projection system with new data from the first quarter of the season. The A's currently project to finish 75-87, twenty games behind the Texas Rangers for the American League West division title, and eleven games behind the Boston Red Sox for the second wild card spot.Given those steep odds, should the A's ...
It came as a shock to many this offseason when the A's announced they were going to officially sign Manny Ramirez. There were always rumors that Oakland may be a potential destination for Ramirez, but the signing came on the heels of the A's inking Yoenis Cespedes to quite a hefty contract.Naturally, questions arose regarding Manny. Would he be a distraction, where were his at-bats going to come from, where's his place in the lineup? Well finally the time has come for these questions, or should I say issues, to be settled. The A's find themselves surprisingly ahead of the Angels ...
To many, tagging Manny Ramirez as a "mentor" is an absurd suggestion, but at this point in his career, Ramirez can actually be a suitable role model—especially to Yoenis Cespedes.
Cespedes can certainly use one.
The Cuban defector recently moved to the United States to play in Major League Baseball for the first time in his career.
On the small-market Oakland Athletics team, Cespedes is alone in expectations and arguably talent. He could use a veteran of the game to keep him in check before it harms his game.
Cespedes has done well for himself so far.
He's produced decent enough while remaining relatively quiet. ...
Who's this Ryan Cook guy and why is he the best relief pitcher in MLB right now?To start, he's a setup man for the Oakland A's and could arguably be the closer at some point this year the way he's pitching, having allowed only four hits and no runs in 21.2 innings. Here's five reasons why he's the No. 1 reliever in baseball right now.Begin Slideshow
It’s time A’s fans. Manny Ramirez’s long anticipated debut in Oakland is on its heels now as the world-renowned slugger's suspension is up on May 30. It’s time to see if GM Billy Beane made the right decision in signing the disgraced Ramirez after his second suspension for involvement with performance-enhancing drugs. Regardless, it certainly has A’s fans chomping at the bit. And while it might seem inherently obvious, Manny’s return is creating a buzz around the Bay Area that will certainly be reverberated throughout the nation as Ramirez takes his first hacks in over a year next week. A’s fans ...
What a slow and boring past three years it has been for the Oakland Athletics organization regarding its interest in moving to the Silicon Valley.Three bogus years of contrived interest in solving the issue of the Athletics' owner Lew Wolff’s desire to move the team down to San Jose. Three years later, and there’s still no resolution. Not even close. It’s almost as if nothing has happened. In March of 2009, MLB commissioner Bud Selig appointed a committee to explore options for providing the A’s with a new ballpark—be it in Oakland or in the southern part of the San ...
